Taking Videoplaza to the next phase: Recruiting 10 rock-stars

It’s crazy over here at Videoplaza. In a good way. Things are simply taking off.

With a product that is maturing, with explosive growth of online video consumption (and ad revenues) and a really positive outlook for the year to come: We feel that we need to shift gears and take Videoplaza to the next level.

We have a leading position on in-stream video ad serving in Europe. In just two years, we’ve grown to be 15 people in three countries. We have about 20 clients in five markets and the overall inventory is growing exponentially.

But with the pace things are happening now, we simply have to ramp up. 2010 is the year when Videoplaza will conquer Europe and to keep up with bold words like that, we need to expand – big time.

Let me just cut the bs and tell you this:

  • We are recruiting 10 new Videoplaza rock-stars before the end of Q1 2010.
  • 6 of these positions are developer roles described here. The others are for sales and admin, please drop us a line if you’re interested.
  • Already now, our office is completely cramped. So we’re moving our headquarters to a new Stockholm location (TBA) – more than three times the size of our current.

With this push we’re confident that we will keep (and extend) our lead on in-stream video ad serving. We are the domain experts and intend to remain the best at what we do.

To achieve that, we can work with nothing less than the best people available. Finding 10 of those in one push is obviously going to be a challenge, so please help us out and spread the word.

Thanks!

Hot new addition to the team: Björn Fant

We are happy to welcome Björn Fant to the Videoplaza team as of today. Björn will help us to keep our clients’ smiles as wide as possible. That includes various missions like making our help sections easily accessible and testing our products thoroughly. He will also be paying attention to our site and help us to make the most out of this blog.

Björn has a technical background as a web developer in the dotcom era but shifted gradually towards project management and business development in startups. Recently he’s been letting his passion out at Musicbrigade (not as ambitious as it used to be) and most recently Jalbum (still going strong).

He also happens to be a close personal friend to me which is why I know that he’s unbelievably talented in spotting flawed usability (really funny anecdotes there) and improving general team performance (oh yes, he’s a ‘doer’).

Make sure to follow Björn on Twitter or his blog (Swedish).

And by the way, haven’t gotten around to write proper blog posts about us being nominated to this year’s SIME Award and our appearance in this nice piece by SvD about promising Swedish startups (Swedish).

Looking for the true design guru

Things are happening quick here at Videoplaza, and it’s time for further expansion. We’re now actively looking for our future design guru who will hopefully take our design and usability to the next level and in time supervise our future team of designers.

If the below excerpt from our Join Us page describes you, please apply to talents@videoplaza.com. If not, please help us spread the word.

And btw, the image is not a future Videoplaza product. :)

Design/UI Guru

Are you a good designer? Does usability turn you on? Do you find yourself counting pixels in your everyday life or dreaming about the strengths in the next CSS standard? Well, then you are the one for us, so bring your scrapbook and join us for perhaps the most challenging experience of your life.

Videoplaza is scouting for a multicompetent web designer who knows everything from good looking design to usability and actual coding. You should know everything from browser (in)capabilities, to XHTML/CSS/Ajax, but more important: You need to be a kick-ass designer with a true talent of making the complex seem easy.

At Videoplaza you will join our backend team and be in charge of our Campaign Manager user interface. If things turn out well, we’re thinking that you will eventually head your very own UI-team designing all things Videoplaza.

You probably have a few years of agency experience, but more important is that you’re a quick learner with an open mind. Come join us and turn good things great together with your brand new brilliant colleagues.

Wanted: Talented Java developer

Okay, it’s supposed to be a crisis out there, and we sure are aware of it. But things haven’t slowed down in the online video business so we need your assistance.

Here’s an excerpt from our join us page, if you don’t feel it’s for you, please pass it on to your friends.

Java Jedi

Does backend development get you hot? Do you wake up in the middle of the night screaming names of poorly documented proprietary Java frameworks? Well, prepare your sweatbands and pop your cans of Jolt Cola, because we need your help, and it sure ain’t gonna be a chilly stay with us.

Videoplaza is calling for our next backend guru who will join our team of highly skilled java developers and deal with the toughest challenges available when it comes to backend development. Together you will create the most flexible adserver available, capable of handling thousands after thousands of requests every second, always picking the most relevant ad.

We think that you have a few years experience of Java development. You know the inside out of HTTP and speak REST as fluent as you speak English. Further, the (to some) intimidating GUI of yet another enterprise firewall might not feel as familiar as your own back-yard, but you sure know how to play around with the toys.

You’re of course attracted to the startup way of life with all there is to it: heaps of work, lot’s of fun and breaking impossible barriers together with true magicians as your colleagues.

We’re looking forward to have you!

Still a good time to found a startup (or 52)

Being part of a startup it’s hard to tell what to really think of the economic downturn. On the one hand, the climate is definitely tougher for businesses in general (and for ad funded ones in particular), but on the other hand the tougher climate effectively kills off some of the ‘not-so-good’ competitors, making more room for the surviving ones.

Hopefully, another consequence is that there might be more unemployed smart people out there ready to join your own endeavor.

That’s why I really regret that I’m unable to attend the 24 hour business camp that’s being held here in Stockholm January 21-23.

The event is sponsored by some of the old media giants (Bonnier R&D, Mindpark) and the concept is strikingly attractive to me. 90 of the most clever Swedish entrepreneurs gather to invent 52 new business ideas during 24 hours.

Not only do I guess that every attendee will get greatly inspired — this is where every company should go to hook up with smart people that get the new business environment.

Since I’m unable to attend myself I can only hope that some of my attending friends can get the others to take a look at our call for talented flash devs. Hopefully there is a match.

For those of you out there that are still able to attend this event, do what you can to clear your diaries. This is certainly the place to get into the entrepreneurial loop right now. And hopefully one or two of the 52 new startups will survive the current climate and grow into future successes.

Looking for our next Flash master

It’s been almost nine months since we officially launched our talent hunt and since then we have expanded our team from just us three original founders to nine great people who are all a major part of what Videoplaza is today.

Recruiting a new person is probably one of the most rewarding things you get to do when you found a business – every person you add to the team really transforms the company. In a startup, you’re never just another employee – this is where you really get to make a difference.

Today, we have once again switched our head light back on. It was never really out, but now we know for sure: We need to find our next Flash master who can help us further enhance the little box of magic that is our product.

As we see it, if you are the person we are looking for, you’re gonna get a great deal of say-so in our company. Not only will you get the opportunity of heading our plugin development team, you will also get to work closely with our clients (major media companies) helping them to get as profitable as possible by implementing our technology.

Earlier on, we were mostly looking for young talented people with great potential. While we still appreciate potential, we think that you have a few years of experience working proffessionally with Flash development in a team.

At Videoplaza you will get to have a lot of fun. If you are talented, you will be in good company, working with some of the most skilled developers there is to find. We are all young and brilliant and we don’t fear to build a multinational business.

So if you think that you might be the person pictured above, please head over to the join us page and then drop us an email.

If you aren’t the person we’re looking for, perhaps you know him/her? Please help us out by spreading the word.
