Overlay ad format specifications

The Videoplaza overlay ad format consists of two parts: the overlay banner that is shown concurrent to the video content while the user watches it and an optional second part that is shown if the user clicks the overlay banner.

If the second part is left out, the user will be directed directly to your site when he/she clicks the banner. If the second part is present, the video content will be paused when the user clicks the banner, and the second part will be shown directly within the video player. The user may then click the second part to get to your site.

The second part may be either

  • a video spot
  • a set of images
  • or a customized swf file

Please check out the detailed specifications further down this document for details regarding the second part of the overlay ad.

About the overlay banner

The overlay banner is a regular swf file that is loaded at runtime into the video player and shown to the user concurrent with the video content by overlaying the bottom of the actual video frame. Please check the demo to see the ad format in action.

The banner dimensions are 400×50 pixels, but you may also have extruding elements that make use of the area outside the regular banner space, which may make the banner more engaging.

You’re not required to have any Actionscript within your overlay banner, but you are allowed to if you want. Please check the Actionscript 101 on what you may, and may not, do with Actionscript within your customized overlay banner swf.

Videoplaza will insert controls in the top right corner of the banner so to secure best end user experience, keep the top right corner of the banner free from extruding elements.

Please check diagram below for further details regarding dimensions, note that extruding elements to the left and on top of the banner should have negative coordinates.
