Looking for the true design guru

Things are happening quick here at Videoplaza, and it’s time for further expansion. We’re now actively looking for our future design guru who will hopefully take our design and usability to the next level and in time supervise our future team of designers.

If the below excerpt from our Join Us page describes you, please apply to talents@videoplaza.com. If not, please help us spread the word.

And btw, the image is not a future Videoplaza product. :)

Design/UI Guru

Are you a good designer? Does usability turn you on? Do you find yourself counting pixels in your everyday life or dreaming about the strengths in the next CSS standard? Well, then you are the one for us, so bring your scrapbook and join us for perhaps the most challenging experience of your life.

Videoplaza is scouting for a multicompetent web designer who knows everything from good looking design to usability and actual coding. You should know everything from browser (in)capabilities, to XHTML/CSS/Ajax, but more important: You need to be a kick-ass designer with a true talent of making the complex seem easy.

At Videoplaza you will join our backend team and be in charge of our Campaign Manager user interface. If things turn out well, we’re thinking that you will eventually head your very own UI-team designing all things Videoplaza.

You probably have a few years of agency experience, but more important is that you’re a quick learner with an open mind. Come join us and turn good things great together with your brand new brilliant colleagues.

Top 33 companies, RedHerring finalist and Branschdag Medieteknik

Finally, here’s a couple of notes that have been on my blog-about-list:

I wanted to start by bragging about us being one of Sweden’s top 33 tech companies all categories by the weekly papers NyTeknik and Affärsvärlden and we’re also a RedHerring top 100 Europe finalist.

I also wanted to let you know that I’m speaking tomorrow at the Royal Institute of Technology at the annual Media Tech days (Branschdag Medieteknik). Don’t hesitate to drop a note if you are around tomorrow and want to meet up!

Will blog more soon, promise :)

Why local newspapers should embrace online video

We’ve just launched three new publishers, NT, Corren and Sydsvenskan, all of them local newspapers (well, that’s their background at least). It’s amazing how quickly and independent they’ve got started and have preroll and overlay campaigns up and running just after a couple of days!

You can check them out here: 24nt, 24Corren and Sydsvenskan TV. The advertisers are local retailers, brokers, opticians, local dating sites etc. instead of the P&G’s of the world.

Why local newspapers?

I believe local newspapers have a big opportunity when it comes to monetizing their online video content because of three reasons:

  1. They have strong relationships with the local advertisers, better than local TV.
  2. They have a tradition of producing the actual ads for their clients, which makes it easier to get them to try new formats such as overlay banners or our iRolls.
  3. It’s complementary to their existing advertising products as it involves audio and moving images which can communicate brand experiences in a completely different way than print and online display ads.

I believe we will see more and more local papers embrace online video because it will make their overall ad business perform better. Hopefully, they will also get a piece of the TV budgets that sure are gonna get relocated.

Wanted: Talented Java developer

Okay, it’s supposed to be a crisis out there, and we sure are aware of it. But things haven’t slowed down in the online video business so we need your assistance.

Here’s an excerpt from our join us page, if you don’t feel it’s for you, please pass it on to your friends.

Java Jedi

Does backend development get you hot? Do you wake up in the middle of the night screaming names of poorly documented proprietary Java frameworks? Well, prepare your sweatbands and pop your cans of Jolt Cola, because we need your help, and it sure ain’t gonna be a chilly stay with us.

Videoplaza is calling for our next backend guru who will join our team of highly skilled java developers and deal with the toughest challenges available when it comes to backend development. Together you will create the most flexible adserver available, capable of handling thousands after thousands of requests every second, always picking the most relevant ad.

We think that you have a few years experience of Java development. You know the inside out of HTTP and speak REST as fluent as you speak English. Further, the (to some) intimidating GUI of yet another enterprise firewall might not feel as familiar as your own back-yard, but you sure know how to play around with the toys.

You’re of course attracted to the startup way of life with all there is to it: heaps of work, lot’s of fun and breaking impossible barriers together with true magicians as your colleagues.

We’re looking forward to have you!
